I’ve been rather preoccupied so updating this thing hasn’t been my top priority. With running back and fourth between L.A. and Vancouver and then traveling all over the place for the holidays I just haven’t really found the motivation to write. I find myself most able to write when something is bothering me or when I’m upset or mad so when I’m not I tend to just focus on everything going on in my life. Which is exactly what I have been doing lately because damn things are good.
We spent the thanksgiving holiday with Mika’s parents in providence . It was nice to finally meet his whole family and learn more about where he came from. They’re really amazing people and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at home. It was definitely one of my better holidays that I’ve had in awhile.
For Christmas or you know as Mika calls it, Non Denominational Winter Holiday. We went to Puerto Rico to visit my family. He immediately bonded with my Grandmother and in all honesty I think she likes him better then she likes me now. The whole holiday was spent rather low key. My grandmother made us all dinner and then we exchanged gifts. It was small and quiet but I preferred it that way.
On New Years we were still in Puerto Rico and Mika and I went out to the beach and watched the sunrise. I know it probably sounds really cheesy but to me it was really amazing. It was one of those moments where I got to reflect on the past year and it made me grateful for what I really have. IT also made me look forward to all the things to come in my life. I know it doesn’t make a really exciting entry but right now I feel as if I’m in the best place I could possibly be in my life. I don’t really think anything could make me happier at this point and that’s an amazing feeling.

In the late 70s and early 80s everyone knew who Jeff Davidson was. You couldn’t turn on the radio with out hearing one of his songs. He was just simply unavoidable. Jeff also possessed all the charisma and good looks that a rock star should. For years there were rumors that he was womanizing and that he was unfaithful to his wife but for the most part they were ignored. Jeff had the persona of the all American man and part of his appeal was held on the fact that he was a family man who would never cheat on his wife. Of course all the rumors were true and 17 year old Xiomara Vasquez-Arroyo found out the hard way. While on tour Jeff met the beautiful Puerto Rican girl who like all girls her age she lied about how old she was to get to sleep with the famous handsome older man. This one bad decision would stay with Xiomara for the rest of her life as nine months later Ezequiel was born.
Of course having an illegitimate son wouldn’t bode well for Jeff’s career so when he found out of his son’s birth Jeff paid large sums of money to keep Xiomara from going to the press about it. Ezequiel grew up in Puerto Rico with his mother and grandparents all the time being well aware of who his father was but also being very aware that his father wanted nothing to do with him. Even with his father supporting his mother financially when birthdays and Christmas came there was never a present to him from his father. What was worse is knowing that the press praised Jeff for being such a family man, caring so well for his wife and three children, Ezequiel’s brothers and sister who didn’t even know he existed.
Still Ezequiel’s childhood was a fairly happy one. His mother loved the boy and tried to provide all the affection to him that his father never would. His grandparents although saddened by the circumstances of his birth were also there for him and his grandfather provided a stable father figure for him. Through out most of his earlier years it seemed as if Ezequiel’s life story would be a fairly normal one that was until the summer before he was supposed to enter high school. One day when he had come back to the house after playing with the other boys in the neighborhood and he found his grandmother sitting at the kitchen table crying. When Ezequiel asked her what was wrong she informed him that his mother had been in a fatal car crash, she died before ever reaching the hospital. The loss was devastating to Ezequiel and for the rest of the summer he seemed to be distant from everyone.
Before school started Ezequiel told his grandparents that he wanted to finally confront his father. He seemed to blame Jeff for everything that went wrong in his life. If he had simply been there for them then none of this would have happened. All of this was completely illogical but to a grieving 14 year old boy it made perfect sense. A few days later he was on plane to Savannah, Georgia where Jeff and his family lived. Of course Ezequiel’s grandparents were extremely worried about him going off on his own but he really didn’t give them any choice in the matter. He had plenty of money that his father had sent him and would have run off with out without their permission.
The first time the world ever heard of Ezequiel Davidson-Vasquez was when he was arrested for assaulting Jeff Davidson. The tabloids ate the story up, although at first they thought the boy to just be some crazed fan who arrived at Jeff's door and sucker punched him but it didn’t take long for Ezequiel to set the story straight. He was happy to tell the world about how while everyone was praising Jeff for being an amazing father he ignored his illegitimate child back in Puerto Rico. Jeff tried to convince the press that this was all some scheme to get money out of him but the evidence was overwhelming. It was well worth a night in juvenal hall for Ezequiel to get the truth out. He was surely Jeff’s son and now the world knew it.
The Davidson family didn’t exactly accept Ezequiel with open arms. In fact it seemed that even though the only person who really did any wrong in the situation was Jeff they took all their anger out on Ezequiel. Ezequiel came to live with them only because many of people involved in Jeff’s career insisted it was the only way to remedy such a situation. Ezequiel was never really accepted in the family and the time he spent there was miserable. He made his way through high school although only barely. There he met his best friend and really the only person he had to talk to in those years. When he was 16 the two formed a band with some other friends from school and much to their surprise almost immediately after they graduated the band was signed.
The Cthulhu Oracle Released three full length albums with the original line up. The bands sounds was some where between punk and post hardcore. It seemed as if they were just on the verge of real fame when three of the members decided to leave. There were many speculations as to why. It seemed Ezequiel and the bands guitarist had a different vision of the band then the other three and when they couldn’t see eye to eye the band almost completely imploded. Still Ezequiel and the guitarist were the founding members and kept the name for their next project. It seemed to aggravate fans because their fourth album sounded nothing like the three that came before it. It was highly jazz and latin influenced while still keeping hints of their original punk aggression.
It took several years for the band's new sounds to be accepted by anyone but when it finally happened it seemed more then satisfying to Ezequiel. Since that time there have been several member changes to the point that the only two solid members seemed to be the founding ones but that’s fine with Ezequiel as long as the music isn’t suffering. The Cthulhu Oracle’s latest CD Amputechture received critical acclaim as well as debuting in on the billboard 100 at #5. In so many ways Ezequiel has felt like he has finally had the last laugh because he knows some how his success has to be a nice slap in the face for the family who never wanted him.
